George Washington Dowell Jr.

	George Washington Dowell Jr., 89, of Jackson, Mississippi, formerly of DuQuoin, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2001 in Mobile, Alabama at the home of his son David Dowell and his daughter-in-law Mary Evelyn Dowell.
	Mr. Dowell was a former regional sales manager for Dawes Laboratories.  He was a Mason and a Lifetime Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, B.P.O. Elks and Phi Delta Theta.
	 He was born August 3, 1912 at DuQuoin, the son of the late Judge George W. and Anna (Midgett) Dowell.  He was married for over 63 years to the late Hazel Wolfe Dowell.  They were married June 28, 1936 at DuQuoin.  She passed away February 25, 2000.
	He was a resident of Jackson, Miss. and Chassahowitzka, Fla. for over 40 years.
	Mr. Dowell is survived by two sons, George W. Dowell III of Alexandria, Va. and David J. Dowell of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Anna Lee Barton of Pittsburg, Penn. and Theo Sandaker of Cincinnati, Ohio; two granddaughters, Genevieve Dowell Madigan of West Falls, New York and Elizabeth Ann Boyes of Richmond, Va.; a grandson, George W. Dowell IV of Santa Clara, Calif.; a great-granddaughter, Cassidy Ann Boyes of Richmond, Va. and many nieces and nephews.
	Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, August 20 at the IOOF Cemetery in DuQuoin with Rev. Chester Zimmer officiating.
	Friends called from 10 a.m.until time of service Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
	Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, DuQuoin.
